Global Citizenship
in Special Schools - 12 month project.
This
piece of work involved a team that included Carolyn
Hallett from the West of England School for Young People with Little
or No Sight (a Food
For Thought School linked with Hill Prep Integrated/Special
Needs School in Kampala, Uganda);
Lizzie Kolek, from Mill Water School, Honiton; Anna Farrell,
a recent graduate volunteer; Sue Errington and David Weatherly
at Devon
Curriculum
Services.
During the year, five schools
worked on curriculum development projects, which the teachers
presented at the Global Citizenship in Special Schools Conference on
4th
July 2006.
The project established the vast range of
special needs which partly explains why there
are
so
few
appropriate
resources
for
teaching global citizenship and the global dimension.
Rather
than develop resources, the project developed some guidelines
for appropriate resources which it is hoped will have a positive
impact on the
life experience of young people with special needs.
