Development Education - who are we?
Devon Development Education was established in 1996 by a few committed and enthusiastic
individuals seeking to promote the global dimension to education. Established
as a voluntary organisation, DDE now has charity status and limited company registration.
DDE Global Education staff travel to schools in all parts of Devon,
Torbay and Plymouth, offering advise and support to teachers across all
Key Stages on bringing
a global dimension to the National Curriculum.
DDE is one of a network of Development Education Centres across the UK, established
to work with children and young people in schools, colleges and in the community
- as well as the general public.
DDE has a management committee, a number of part time staff and some
excellent volunteers. More management committee members and volunteers are
always welcomed!
DDE is helping to promote global citizenship and to develop the global dimension
across the curriculum by:
- Enabling people to understand the links between their own lives and those
of people throughout the world
- Increasing the understanding of economic, social, political and environmental
forces which shape our lives
- Developing the skills, attitudes and values which enable people to work
together to bring about change and take control of their own lives
- Working towards a more just and sustainable world in which power and resources
are more equitably shared.
DDE is seeking to achieve these aims by offering a wide range of global citizenship
teaching and education resources, training and
INSET for schools and colleges, a database of partners
and providers involved
in global citizenship education and a number of education
projects.
