Celebrating a Life of Compassion: Mic Morgan of Exeter and a Legacy for Global Education

Mic had an interesting life. As a young person Mic volunteered in a hospital in Swaziland before returning to the UK to complete an MSc in Nutrition at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where he came top of his year.
Mic worked as a nutritionist in St Kitts in the Caribbean for the United Nations, developing a nutrition strategy, and later with Save the Children in Papua New Guinea. He subsequently retrained in health promotion, working in Portsmouth and London, and became a lecturer at Oxford Brookes University. While there, he trained as a psychotherapist and, following the university’s closure, practised in Exeter until the Covid lockdown.
A member of the St Thomas, Exeter community and a Quaker, Mic Morgan was known to family, friends and neighbours for his kindness, curiosity and attentiveness to others. His reflective way of being and appreciation of simple joys left a lasting impression on those who knew him.
Alongside his professional life, Mic gave generously of his time, volunteering at the Food Bank and serving as a Park Run marshal alongside supporting Devon Development Education (DDE) as a trustee.
As someone who valued learning, diversity, and community, Mic chose a meaningful way to honour his legacy: remembering Devon Development Education (DDE) in his estate planning. Mic’s legacy gift reflects his long-standing commitment to DDE’s mission; which he also supported greatly during his time as a Trustee.
Why DDE Matters
Devon Development Education (DDE) is a charity dedicated to connecting people of all ages with the wider world. For more than two decades, DDE has worked with schools, community groups, and educators across Devon, Plymouth and Torbay to promote global learning, social justice, and sustainable thinking. The projects help children and adults alike reflect on global issues, understand the roles we play in a shared world, and engage constructively with difference and diversity.
The organisation’s work spans:
- Programs that encourage intercultural understanding in schools and communities.
- Initiatives celebrating Devon’s multicultural history.
- Partnerships promoting Fairtrade and ethical global citizenship.
- Support for inclusive and anti-racist community learning.
Operating primarily through grants, donations and community support, DDE relies on the generosity of individuals and families who share its vision for a fairer, more informed world. The core funding needs are met through regular and one-off contributions, and legacy gifts are especially valued because they provide enduring support for long-term goals.
A Legacy of Learning
By choosing to leave a legacy gift to DDE, Mic ensured that his values – compassion, curiosity, and global solidarity – will continue to inspire others long into the future. Legacy donations like this help sustain DDE’s educational programmes, resources, and community partnerships, allowing future generations to benefit from the same insights and opportunities that Mic held dear.
How You Can Support DDE
DDE welcomes support in many forms:
- Leaving a legacy in a Will to Devon Development Education.
- One-off or regular donations through secure giving platforms.
- Participating in community events, workshops and projects that connect local people with global learning.
