Three New Trustees

We are seeking new Trustees for our education work, fund raising and HR

Devon Development Education is a very successful education charity, committed to creating positive change in our Devon schools and communities. We are seeking new Trustees to

(i) support our education work,

(ii) assist with fund raising and

(iii) offer guidance on HR issues and contribute to a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

Our key current projects include:

  • Food For Thought programme, linking primary schools in Uganda and Devon and Cornwall
  • Telling our stories, Finding Our Roots, Devon’s Multi-Cultural History – in Honiton and Ilfracombe. Funded by the Lottery Heritage Fund – our third such project.
  • Cultural Champions. Devon residents with a different culture and heritage to most of the population; trained to share their stories with pupils and communities.
  • Youth Cultural Champions. Training young people from different ethnic backgrounds to increase their self-esteem and be proud of their culture.
  • Windrush in Devon. We celebrate, educate and commemorate the Windrush generations and their contributions to our country!
  • DDE Community Programme. A regular series of public events on topical issues.

Our education work takes us into primary and secondary schools, across the county, for different projects, including:

  • celebrating cultural diversity and different faiths
  • anti-racism, equality and inclusion
  • global citizenship and school partnerships
  • Fairtrade, increasing understanding of our global food supplies
  • Creating education resources, especially linked to our Telling Our Stories projects.

We’d welcome advice and support, learning from the trustee’s own expertise and experiences.

Our income comes from grant applications, some earned income and donations from the general public. We’d welcome advice and support from the trustee in two particular areas:

  • Funding applications – helping staff to find, develop, shape and write funding applications.
  • Community fund-raising – helping DDE to take part in community events, e.g. Exeter Respect Festival; organising DDE’s own fund-raising events; or recruiting people to take part in sponsored events.

Why choose to join us?

At DDE, we believe that our success is driven by the passion and expertise of our team. As a Trustee, you will have:

  • The opportunity to be part of a growing charity with a clear mission.
  • A chance to make a difference in the lives of children, young people and adults across Devon.
  • Opportunities to expand your knowledge through networking and professional development.

Qualifications: no formal qualifications are required but we hope you will have:

  • Relevant experience for the role
  • Commitment to our values and mission.
  • Enjoyment of working collaboratively, as part of a diverse team.

Commitment:

  • 6-8 trustee meetings each year, usually evenings, in DDE’s Exeter office
  • Involvement in relevant DDE activities

How to Apply: We welcome enquiries from all ages and backgrounds. To find out more and hold an informal discussion, contact our Chair of Trustees, Desmond Kumar, at desmond.kumar@gmail.com or co-ordinator Sue Errington at DDE@globalcentredevon.org.uk
