What is Fairtrade? Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world.

What is Fairtrade Fortnight? For two weeks each year, thousands of individuals, companies and groups across the UK come together to celebrate the people who grow our food, people who live in some of the poorest countries in the world and who are often exploited and badly paid.

Building the Coalition and Awareness and Engagement with Fairtrade Towns

1.Identify roasters, retailers, cafes and enthusiasts

2.Sign up local businesses and retailers in Fairtrade Towns interested in supporting or buying

3.Plan promotions with Fairtrade Towns, with potential stockists and roasters/micro roasters  - design and print materials that each town and business  can use

Nestle KitKats are no longer Fairtrade. From October 2020 Nestle stopped buying cocoa and sugar from farmers in Cote d’Ivoire, Fiji and Malawi on Fairtrade terms.

We are planning an Autumn Programme of events - details available soon. World at Lunch will resume on Thursday 2nd September.

Telling our Stories, Finding Our Roots (TOSFOR) ...
The Okehampton Town Centre Exhibition Trail has been re-launched and will be in place during August. Leaflets are available from the starting point at the Museum of Devon Life.
We are pleased to make the Schools Activity Pack available to Teachers of KS2 and KS3. On Thursday 9th September, 4pm there will be a  Free Teachers Workshop exploring the resources.

DDE is looking for a volunteer to join the team as Honorary Treasurer. Further information may be found here.

Our Summer Party Appeal, for funds to compensate for lack of events this year,  is still open.

Our colleagues in SW Fairtrade have a Kickstart Scheme job opportunity available as part of their B2B Coffee Initiative
