Garden Teachers’ training visit to Kulika Training Centre
Agriculture is on the Ugandan primary curriculum, but usually it is taught by rote in classrooms
with little practical activity. In the Food for Thought rural government schools, the two Garden
Teachers are given practical training in sustainable organic growing: making organic fertilisers and
pesticides; digging contour ditches to trap soil and rainwater run-off; propagating seeds and plants.
A visit to Kulika’s Training Centre in April 2023 had a significant impact on the 26 teachers from
26 schools who took part (see photos below), and now we want to repeat this with 26 more
teachers – over three days, two nights.
The cost is £84 per person, for training, transport, two nights’ board and lodging. Our Christmas Appeal is to help fund this training visit. We are grateful for any donation you are able to give. If this is a Christmas gift for family or friends, please let us know.
Cheques should be payable to ‘Devon Development Education (Christmas Appeal)’ and sent to DDE at 17 St David’s Hill, Exeter EX4 3RG, or make a donation by BACS (a/c: Devon Development Education, s/c 08-92-99, a/c no. 65173134). We will send you a receipt for each donation. If you wish to give this as a Christmas gift, we will send greetings to your family or friends, with information about your gift to them.
