What would a DDE Community Project look like?
This project is aiming to increase community cohesion in Exeter and around St David’s, by providing a programme of events and activities throughout the year, but broadly organised into school terms. These events are free and open to all. Some are in person, usually held at Exeter Community Centre and some are online, having moved there during the Covid 19 pandemic and not moving off later. Teas and coffees are always provided and a request for donations to held cover the costs of the events.
The list of activities and events includes:
World At Lunch, Thursday lunchtime, 1-2pm, online, where Devon people are joined by colleagues in Jamaica and USA.
Globe Trotters, once or twice a term. A social evening where a presenter talks about a recent visit to a country overseas, held in a home with refreshments. We ask for a donation towards the work in Uganda, the Food For Thought School Linking programme.
Global Book Club, one held online and one in person in Plymouth and held usually twice a term. A non-fiction book exploring an aspect of life in a country overseas is chosen for people to read and discuss.
Occasional speaker meetings, which may be online or in person. We have also provided events for Black History Month in October, each year; a series of sessions about climate change and the annual COP Upcoming eventsmeetings; other topical topics.
